Instead of copy-pasting from wiki or taking notes on a *.txt as i usually do, ... i've started this notebook in order to force myself to learn about collages.
Being recently in Norway gave me enough time to think thoroughly about myself and my artwork. Nature was a constant and nature awareness has been and is published as a true Norwegian life style. At least that was my brief perception on those folks.
Well … I’m from a big city. I’ve born at one and lived my childhood there. Studied at another big city and as soon I was able to, I’ve moved to one of my country’s biggest city. Huss and fuss is my daily business and “101 City Living” was my child plays.
Returning from a three days journey at Jomfruland gave me another insight that I only realized as soon as I came back home and smelled the stench of my hometown. For a few days I had that terrible awareness. The last time I felt something similar was at Macau when I was in the need of a breathing mask to live there. This is the signal… when your body tells your mind that as pleasant it can be a city center, the true is that you are killing yourself inhale after inhale of those exhaust fumes.
For years I’ve been working around the human body and how that same human is able to transform natural landscapes into metropolis. The human strength, individually or in group, that knocks down mountains to build houses, streets and tunnels; and that same strength that able us to live at the most unhospitable places.
After Jomfruland I’m able to observe as Nature overcomes man’s footsteps and fights back. This is my art as it has been for several other artists for years to count. The communion of man and nature on a constant relationship of struggle and awareness. And this is my own nature, for as I live at a city, the relationship with other humans is relatively small to say the least and my relationship with the present self and surrounding space is the must.
I do believe that this specific connection will able me a rebirth of the present self as an artist and as an individual for that must be our aim as an artist. The true alchemy way to a rebirth. To explore ourselves from the exploring of our surroundings.
